The Change in Octave  – Cork City

If there is one sound which immediately evokes home when living abroad, it is the cheerful lilt of Cork. It’s the sound of the River Lee frothing into the harbour, of hurling matches on summer evenings, of trad music and pints of Murphy’s in a toasty quayside bar as Atlantic squalls whip by to sweep up St Patrick’s Hill. It is the sound of Sonia O’Sullivan and Roy Keane.

At no time does Blarney sound better than in the arrival hall at Cork Airport in the run up to Christmas, when thousands of Corkonians return home to spend the holiday with loved ones and enjoy the craic about the town, Clonakilty black pudding, Barry’s Tea, Gubeen Cheese and long coastal walks to work off those excess calories.

Ireland’s second city. Cork has a population of circa 125,000 (circa 543,000 in County Cork), substantially smaller than Dublin. But what Cork lacks in size, it more than makes up for in character. Cork City retains its small-town feel, its sense of community, its youthful energy. It is a vibrant centre for arts and culture, with institutions such as University College Cork, venues such as Cork Opera House, and numerous natural and cultural amenities scattered around city and county.

Over the past number of years, Corkonians have been returning to home to a thriving city, a city of opportunity, one which offers a quality lifestyle to a qualified workforce. New positions open up daily as cutting-edge companies like Boston Scientific invest in Cork’s continued economic growth. Boston Scientific, Cork is dedicated to transforming lives through innovative medical solutions that improve the health of patients around the world. Named Cork Company of the Year at the Cork Chamber Awards 2018, Boston Scientific Cork celebrated 21 years in the city in 2019.

Cork is no longer a county to visit once a year at Christmas. It’s a location with career options and training opportunities for those who miss the quality of life in the Republic of Cork, with its sense of community, low crime rates, easy-going charm and access to education/amenities for children. A career with Boston Scientific Cork is both challenging and rewarding, an opportunity to work at the cutting edge of medical science. If you’re a natural problem-solver with the imagination and courage to meet new challenges, then Boston Scientific may be a perfect fit.

With the ever-expanding facilities at their Cork City plant, Boston Scientific offer a range of exciting options which prioritize learning, development and progression in a location perfectly suited to creating the home you and your family deserve.

As the saying goes, ‘Nobody is perfect. But being from Cork is close enough.’
