Galway attracts talent from down under

We caught up with Jared Robinson to get his first hand experience of  moving to Ireland from New Zealand.  Here’s what he had to say about working for Boston Scientific and living in the city of Galway.

Jared Robinson
Jared is originally from Auckland New Zealand and relocated to Ireland in 2016. Jared’s wife is Irish and they met in New Zealand.  Moving to Ireland was really a lifestyle choice for them.  It was when they visited the beautiful city of Galway for just a four-day trip that they fell in love with the place and all its charm. It has a vibrant culture, the cosiest coffee shops, a variety of restaurants and this magical city has a special energy.

Jared is currently availing of further education with the support of Boston Scientific in NUIG – Galway’s prestigious college.  Jared really enjoys his new life in Galway and also working as the End Users Services Team Lead in the company’s Galway site.

“They’ve got quite competitive packages. It’s a corporate company but they do have a very caring feel about them, obviously that goes with the industry too and everyone seems really engaged with those values. There’s a real drive for collaboration and it doesn’t matter what role you’re in, you really get pushed into taking ownership of things and your ideas are listened to. I get that vibe from other people too. They have a genuine want to be here and they’ve grown through their roles and I think that’s fantastic”

Jared works with a number of great colleagues who are part of a global team based in Galway. They support the US region and have the benefit of living in one of the most loved cities in the world whilst enjoying travel to the US.  This is really the ideal for Jared because he enjoys the best of both worlds, a base in Galway with a global career and opportunities.

Ireland was an ideal choice for Jared as it’s a hotbed for European distributors for medical devices. Coastal location is important for Kiwis. Overall the lifestyle, craic, music and culture is what makes Galway such a special home.
