Coming home for Christmas

An estimated one million Irish live abroad, and every year, in the run up to Christmas, thousands of Irish migrants return home from far flung (and indeed near flung) locations around the globe. Wait in arrivals at any airport, train station or bus terminal and you will greet countless smiles, whoops and screams of family and friends being reunited for the festive period.

Of course, people from all over the world travel to be with family at Christmas, but nowhere like Ireland. One reason is the size of Ireland’s diaspora, the largest per capita in the world. A second, perhaps more important reason, is the nature of Ireland’s diaspora. The Irish return not just to family and friends, but to Ireland itself. They return for the change in pace, Clonakilty black pudding, real butter, pints of porter, proper tea and schizophrenic weather. They return to a land where you can chat with bus drivers, order a drink with a nod and socialise secure in the knowledge that sarcasm is a much-admired mode of expression.

Over the past number of years, the Irish are returning to an Ireland back on track economically, an Ireland of opportunity, an Ireland that offers a quality lifestyle to a qualified workforce. Whether you left home in disgust at the shameless excesses of the Celtic Tiger years, or in despair during the post-boom recession, Ireland is now a country which offers much to the returning emigrant. That’s not to say we’ve solved all our problems, but Ireland is moving in the right direction. Unemployment is below 5% and dropping. More jobs are coming on the market every day as cutting-edge companies like Boston Scientific invest in Irelands continued economic growth. Boston Scientific is dedicated to transforming lives through innovative medical solutions that improve the health of patients around the world.

Ireland is no longer a homeland to visit once a year at Christmas. It is a land to welcome you home, a home with many career options and training opportunities for those who miss the quality of life here in Ireland, with its sense of community, low crime rates, easy-going charm and access to education/amenities for children.  A career with Boston Scientific is more than just a job. It’s personal. As a leader in medical science we’re committed to solving the challenges that matter most – united by a deep caring for human life. If you’re a natural problem-solver with the imagination, courage and spirit to make a meaningful difference, there’s no better place to build your career.

With ever-expanding facilities in the beautiful Tipperary town of Clonmel, ‘The real capital of Ireland, Cork City, and the cultural/artistic ambiance of Galway, we offer a range of exciting options which prioritize learning, development and progression in locations perfectly suited to creating the home you and your family deserve.

At the end of the festive period, the scenes of departure in bus terminals, train stations, and airports contrast starkly with the jubilant scenes of arrival. In 2020, it’s possible to enjoy a stimulating and rewarding career without leaving home. Those heart-breaking goodbyes to friends and families can finally be consigned to the past.
