Clonmel at Christmas

Irish emigrants arriving home to Clonmel at Christmas return to a warm welcome and the unique atmosphere of this historic Tipperary town on the banks of The Suir. The town’s name is derived from Cluain Meala, which translates as Honey Meadow. We don’t know why this modern vibrant town was named Honey Meadow, but perhaps it’s safe to assume Clonmel was buzzing back in the day. Present day visitors could be forgiven for thinking the honey refers to sweet aromas wafting from the Bulmers Factory east of the town, just one of the successful companies located at Clonmel, and the one most associated with the town by the Irish abroad, to whom Magners cider is a taste of home.

Clonmel is certainly buzzing at the moment, with many emigrants returning home to stay due to multinational companies such as Boston Scientific investing in Clonmel’s continued economic growth. Boston Scientific recently invested €26 Million to expand research and development at its Clonmel plant, while also expanding the technical capabilities regarding the design of its next-generation cardiac rhythm management devices. This not only creates high value jobs at Boston Scientific but provides substantial spin off benefits to an already thriving local economy.

At Christmas, Clonmel town centre enjoys a party atmosphere as friends and family gather in pubs and restaurants, browse the Christmas Craft Fair and Christmas Market, or just ramble through the streets, bump into old friends, and talk of hurling or the upcoming Clonmel Races. It is a time of over-indulgence so a perfect opportunity to enjoy post-feast strolls along Cahir Rd to St Patrick’s Well or longer walks along Marlfield Rd to the idyllic bird sanctuary at Marlfield Lake. The beautiful surroundings, the sense of community, the pace of life, are just a few of the things Clonmel natives yearn for when living abroad.

Clonmel has become more than a town to visit at Christmas, it a location with exciting career options and training opportunities. Returning home to live has become a viable option. A career with Boston Scientific Clonmel is both challenging and rewarding, an opportunity to work at the cutting edge of medical science, developing the next-generation cardiac rhythm management devices. If you’re a natural problem-solver with the imagination and courage to meet new challenges, then Boston Scientific Clonmel may offer an exciting next step in your professional life.

With ever-expanding facilities at their Clonmel plant, Boston Scientific offer a range of exciting options which prioritize learning, development and progression in a location perfectly suited to creating the home you and your family deserve.
